TOUR OVERVIEW

***About the festival: The most significant event of the year in Mongolia is the Naadam Festival, well-known as the Eriin Gurvan Naadam. During Naadam, nomads engage in three of Mongolia’s traditional manly sports, including wrestling, archery, and horse racing. Women also participate in archery and girls participate in horse racing.

Naadam was celebrated for centuries as a test of courage and strength of the nomadic people and warriors. People travel from all corners of the country as well as overseas to enjoy the Naadam festival. This celebration is held across the country, usually between 11 to 13 July, to mark the anniversary of the 1921 Mongolian Revolution.

Naadam is celebrated across the country and every town and village holds its own wrestling, archery, and horse racing contests. The official Naadam opening ceremony in Ulaanbaatar is quite spectacular. Riders dress as Chinggis Khan’s entourage and lead a huge procession around the Naadam Stadium, which features hundreds of adults and children dressed in costumes, representing all Mongolia’s ethnic groups.
